A major cause of delay in business operations is the time spent in searching for various assets such as tools and documentation. Many times, it gets quite difficult to locate an item which hasn’t been used by the employees for a long time. Business owners have been looking for a solution for this problem for quite a long time, and with the introduction of latest technology, they have finally found it.
The best solution for this problem is RFID asset tracking. It saves the employees for spending a long time in looking for small things. The RFID reader will take care of everything, while the employees just have to tell the reader what they are looking for.
Previously, companies relied on barcodes but unfortunately, they are not as good as RFID technology is. With RFID, you can send and receive signals from a longer distance, and you don’t need to make sure that the reader and tag are in direct line of sight. RFID works without keeping the tag in-line with the scanner.
Before companies used RFID technology for asset tracking, employees had to go inside storerooms and search for items individually. Moreover, they had to go in places which were not easily accessible, such as under the tables and on the upper-most shelf. With RFID, all they need to do is take the reader in the room where the assets are present, and it will detect which items are present in the room. It’s a great blessing for many businesses because it speeds up business operations and allows the business to focus on other challenges.
What Are the Components of An Asset Tracking System?
An RFID-based asset tracking system is made up of three components:
- RFID Tags
- RFID Readers
- RFID Asset Tracking Software
Each valuable asset present inside a company gets an RFID tag. Each tag has a unique serial number which acts as an identifier. The readers come in two types; fixed and handheld. The fixed readers are placed inside the office/manufacturing facility according to their requirements. For instance, some businesses need readers at every doorway, while others opt for readers placed only at the main entrances and exit points.
After the tags are placed on the devices, each tag is registered in the asset tracking software’s database so that the computer knows how many assets are present inside the office and what are their identification numbers.
Once an asset with an RFID tag passes through a walk-through reader gate, its information is picked by the reader through RF waves. The reader checks the tag’s data against the information present inside the database to see what the asset is. If someone is taking the object out of the premises without permission, then the software will alert the management and the culprit will be caught immediately.
With an RFID asset tracking system, the assets of a company are kept safe from robbery. No one can take the object outside the business premises without permission. If you are looking for an effective way to keep your assets safe, then RFID is the best option for you.
