NFC/RFID and NTAG® TagTamper

Near Field Communication (NFC) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chips, both use radio signals for data reading and exchange. RIDF is mostly used to identify unique items by using radio frequency while NFC is a more specialized subset of RFID technologies for some sophisticated applications. In other words, RFID is in widespread use around the world, especially in tagging and tracking applications. While NFC is an emerging technology, more secure and capable of being reader and tag, at the same time. So, NFC devices can create peer-to-peer connections between them.

RFID readers and tags are separate devices. The tag contains a chip to store data which is detected be RIFD reader. This kind of tags finds numerous applications including the retail industry. On the other hand, NFC extends the capabilities of RFID by interchangeable reading and writing operation mode along with two-way communication.

Applications of RFID and NFC

RFID tags are used in the retail industry to keep track of product inventory and packages. These tags are also used with pets so they can be identified in any situation. It is also used in smart identification, credit cards, and some smart documents.

NFC is an improved version of RFID but it works in small proximity of about 4 cm. Also, it can create two-way communication in the devices with NFC cards. NFC’s applications go far beyond the simple RFID, from micropayments to smart ticketing.

NTAG® TagTamper; the next level NFC TAG

NTAG® TagTamper is the part of the NFC tag family and most used in the Internet of Things, industrial, and consumer sectors. Built with ISO/IEC14443 Type A standards, these cards operate at 13.56 MHz frequency. These special NFC tags are equipped with a high level of security and can exhibit a wide range of functions, depends on applications and user requirements. It also offers a high level of personalization, so, the companies can use it in a wide range of their products.

There are currently two TagTamper products: Ntag®213 TagTamper and Ntag®424 DNA TagTamper. Both ICs are fully compliant to ISO/IEC14443 Type A specifications. But on the NFC part, NTAG® 424 DNA TT is compliant with the NFC Forum Type 4 Tag specification, where the NTAG 213 TT is NFC Forum Type 2 Tag.
